Four Flags Forever Stamps Booklet of 20

The U.S. Postal Service's tradition of honoring the stars and stripes continues with the issuance of the four flags (forever) stamps. This quartet of stamps features a bright U.S. Flag against a white background, with a single word appearing on each of the four stamps in large letters: Freedom, Liberty, Equality, and Justice. The black typeface used in the design recalls the look of colonial-era printing.

The current U.S. Flag consists of 13 stripes and 50 stars, with Congress having passed legislation in 1818 stating that the number of stars on the flag should match the number of states in the union. The legislation also specified that new stars would be added to the flag on the July 4 after a state's admission, with the current flag's 50th star being added on July 4, 1960, after Hawai'i became a state on August 21, 1959.

The flag illustration used on the stamps was created by the late Arnold Holey Well and is based on a photograph taken by art director Howard Paine, who also served as the typographer for the stamp. The "four flags" stamps are being issued as forever stamps in self-adhesive books of 20 and self-adhesive rolls of 100, with forever stamps always being equal in value to the current first-class mail one-ounce rate.

The booklet of 20 first-class stamps is brand new and features the four flag images, each with one of the words "Freedom," "Liberty," "Equality," or "Justice" prominently displayed. The booklet is divided, with 12 stamps on one side and 8 on the other.

Made in the USA, these stamps continue the U.S. Postal Service's tradition of honoring the country's symbols and values through its stamp program. The use of the iconic U.S. Flag, coupled with the powerful words representing core American ideals, makes this a meaningful and timely stamp release that celebrates the enduring spirit of the United States.
